Pears, Red Bartlett, Local (1 ct) – Black Rock Orchard
Description
1 count at $3.00/lb
Black Rock Orchard is a family-owned orchard located in Lineboro, Maryland on the Mason-Dixon Line. With 92 acres of land, David Hochheimer and Emily Zaas grow 77 varieties of apples, peaches, pears, nectarines, plums, apricots, blueberries, gooseberries and more. Our produce can only be found at farmers markets in the MD/DC/VA region.
To extend the growing season, we have 3 greenhouses to grow heirloom tomatoes in the spring and fall. This spring, heirloom varieties include Carbon, Mortgage Lifter, Purple Zebra, Amy Apricot, Black Cherry and more. The greenhouses have the added value of extending the work of the farm into the colder months. Because of the extra work, we are able to employ 4 full-time workers all year long.
Black Rock Orchard utilizes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. Due to the humid mid-Atlantic climate, we are unable to grow fruit organically but we work hard to spray as little as possible. With the help of an IPM advisor, we track bugs and fungus diseases to limit both and we target our spraying to identified problem areas. Limiting our spraying is beneficial to us, as well as to our customers.
